Description
This course should be taken by all personnel involved with the generation, consolidation, storage, and preparation for shipment of low-level radioactive waste or mixed radioactive hazardous waste, as well as supervisors and auditors with responsibilities for waste generation or shipment.
Topics will include the regulatory classification requirements for low-level radioactive waste, the Low-Level Radioactive Waste Policy Act and state compact updates, current status and availability regarding commercially available disposal sites, waste sites’ acceptance criteria, waste broker services, and mixed waste disposal options. EPA requirements for implementing the conditional exemption for storage, transportation and disposal of mixed wastes will be discussed as well as NRC/EPA guidance on testing of mixed wastes.
